When the New Year Feels Heavy Instead of Hopeful

New year, new me! Vision board! Resolutions! Sigh. I don't know about you, but sometimes these ideas make January feel exhausting, especially coming off of a jam-packed holiday season. Especially if you were spearheading the holiday efforts. Especially if your 'break' was you going from one house to another, entertaining adults and/or children, and cleaning all the time. The idea of adding a totally new activity or set of activities in an effort to become a totally new version of yourself because it's January and what people expect you to do might be the thing that sends your new year into a direction you don't want.

You wouldn't be in the minority if you felt that way. We just don't talk about it much. We should though. We should normalize the fatigue that can surface in January. But...I do want to make changes? Great, why not try something a little different this year? What if this month became a time to get curious, to really reflect on what helps your body and your mind align and relax? What if this week, you took some time to just notice those moments in your life when your shoulders drop, when that tension in your back falls away, when thst breath loosened you up. Because those are the moments that you can use to build off, to help make this year feel more aligned with who you want to be.

If you’re not sure what you need but recognize some of this in yourself, therapy can offer space to explore that without pressure or expectations. An initial conversation can simply be a place to see if it feels like a good fit.
